SUNDAY PRAYER, cxxxv
time & time again
for the choices that she's made
she has no remorse
because the choice was always yours
she held every nail you had
on a scale from sea to sand
as you brought your hammer over
and around and down
on her hand.
time & time again
her purple hands await you
on a scale from black to blue
though she can't bring herself to hate you
anymore than eve could hate the snake
anymore than leaves could hate the rake
or wait, i guess maybe they do.
i think then there is hope. i hope
you do too.
because you're a birthday
deep with the dayshine
from dusk to moonbreak
the dust of keepsakes
time & time again, i am i am
