SUNDAY PRAYER, cxxxviii

time & time again,

fingerprints pave the windows

packed with plastic men and women

wearing grassy knolls and swimming

in a pool of peppermint skulls

the wallets dancing on the walls

in a eucalyptus bliss

clap your hands and slit your wrists

i am i am

time & time again

those are your clouds in the drain

that is your new suit they're staining

your skull they are painting black

that's your face in the glass reflected

the men and widows plastic perfected

here and gone as fruit flies, and

the sharp songs that said it best,

but they were wrong

because you're a birthday

deep with the dayshine

from dusk to moonbreak

the dust of keepsakes

time & time again, i am i am
