SUNDAY PRAYER, cxlvii
time & time again, old friend
every mistake i've ever made
i made because of alcohol.
the soft rock bottom siren call
the marble moon, the famous fall
the sub that learns a man to crawl
the upside-down chair, the prodigal drought
you drink up from the devil's mouth
i am i am
time & time again,
butcher of souls. i drink the genie
and become mist, become a fog of myself.
my eyes become wires crossing
as the genie through my brain is flossing
amber waves of grain toss
as beds become the devil's tongue
the whiteboard on which wars are lost
and won.
but you're a birthday
deep with the dayshine
from dusk to moonbreak
the dust of keepsakes
time & time again, i am i am
