a nascent shrub into an everglade
of rationale and red tape
threading spiral through his veins
is there a lightswitch in his spirit
that pulls away as you draw near it

is there some thing he can collect
a house, or a fence, or a child,
or a red flag he can wave wildly
in your face, as he sinks
his swords into you, thinking
this is how his heart is weighed
