time & time again
jean-paul sartre said "hell is
other people." but i disagree.
i am certain hell is me, and
heaven too. with you, a half-moon
is the left eye of a cat so fat
and salted with the fleas of stars
are you winking at us, mister cat?
you are, you are
time & time again
because people can surprise you
and because the past is nowhere
if not a lifetime behind you.
and because she is different
because everyone is lost
because everyone is worthy
it is for all of these reasons
i disagree
but you're a birthday,
deep with the dayshine
from dusk to moonbreak,
