SUNDAY PRAYER, cxcvi
time & time again,
roses red and violets blue
are blooming in my desert mind
a can of winding worms
in the hull of a skull, an
infinite yard along whose boundary
dogs bark at a secret spark,
the underwater fire that is
the soul.
time & time again,
you wake up to the sound of them,
the suffering hounds of the hearts of men
digging under the fence.
it was fate, that's what i tell her.
i did not wait in the cellar
with the wine and rats and old clothes
i held the tornado in my arms
and i chose.
you are a birthday,
deep with the dayshine
from dusk to moonbreak,
the dust of keepsakes
time & time again, i am i am
