Mother's Day, 2010

SUNDAY PRAYER, ccxiii

time & time again

as things are born from other things

so also are we exiting.

standing up to tanks as they

toward you on the concrete climb

the one way city street of time

i have no memory of being born

of the concrete being poured

time & time again

and when the people put their handprints in

before we had a chance to dry

all but impossible to describe

these two impressions like a butterfly

gray as cigarette smoke & frozen

sidewalk cracks and broken backs

a moth trapped in a wine glass

i am

but you are a birthday,

deep with the dayshine

from dusk to moonbreak,

the dust of keepsakes

time & time again, i am i am
