SUNDAY PRAYER, ccxviii
time & time again
pressing the body of the insect
into the fabric of the armrest
is it in my nature to end life
as it is natural to die
to absent-mindedly pull leaves
off of the trees as i walk by them?
i see poisons and i want to try them
i see tears in the eyes of strangers
and want immediately to cry them
i am tipping back in the rocking chair
a summer breeze in the frigid air
time is a national forest
literally littered with examples
with all the ample proof you need
to see the point of death
but disagree
but you are a birthday,
deep with the dayshine
from dusk to moonbreak,
the dust of keepsakes
time & time again, i am i am
