SUNDAY PRAYER, cclxii
time & time again
despair, the dust of death is there
it collects in the basin of our lungs
the twin hourglasses of everyone
i do care, i do care
though i know i am everything & everywhere
and so is she, even if she leaves me
i am not alone, i am only free
again, & time again
despair, who wants to be this free?
like a wind along the cracked curbs here
the highway like a ghost of deer
who, now demolished in an instant
in a flower of aluminum and red pigment,
was once as free as god's infinite grace,
displaced. quickly replaced
i am, i am
you are a birthday
deep with the dayshine
from dusk to moonbreak
the dust of keepsakes
time & time again, i am i am
