SUNDAY PRAYER, cclxvii
time & time again you love.
you break the windows of your doubt
with lists of things you'd change about him,
a hidden tattoo inside your mouth.
again you chase the priest.
you take his collar off with your crooked teeth.
again he will be your umbrella blue,
and he will stretch to fit the both of you
time & time again.
but you only need him when it rains,
when the color drains from the jewels.
again the dark clouds trudge your windowpane
like drunks through a crowded narrow bar.
only when you feel sunk and charred
do you need his thin umbrella blue.
when this latest rain passes,
will you pass too?
you are a birthday
deep with the dayshine
from dusk to moonbreak
the dust of keepsakes
time & time again, i am i am
