SUNDAY PRAYER, cclxxvi
time & time again
today, while the coffee was still steeping
i watched videos of you smoking crack
on the internet. who would face such a fact?
who would look under the bed when they're scared
to make sure there are no monsters there?
the cruel jewels in the pulsing vault
not everyone stops when the orders are to halt
time & time again
there is new blood running in town every day
their glittering laughter bounces on its old bricks
and the same bad break gets a fresh fix
old poisons find new pairs of lips
& i hold my tongue and try to say "pirate ship"
while the monsters slip out from under the beds
and live happily ever after at home in our heads
you are a birthday
deep with the dayshine
from dusk to moonbreak
the dust of keepsakes
time & time again, i am i am
