SUNDAY PRAYER, cclxxxvii
time & time again
of the mummified cat the kids here found
buried in a hole in the wall in the bricks
i can say only that for some life has a pretty short wick
which makes the planet as a chandelier pretty brilliant
but space is a darkness too resilient
or so says the worm in the core of the mind
with the weather this warm, you'd think he'd be outside
inching to the gas station to buy a box of wine
instead of tunneling further, tunneling blind
making the planet out to be a black hole
where there isn't a heaven and there isn't a soul.
there is a dartboard over the cavity now,
a game i never play because i don't know how,
and the extinguished cat they put into a birdcage
where it eyes us like a director eyes the actors
on a stage
you are a birthday
deep with the dayshine
from dusk to moonbreak
the dust of keepsakes
time & time again, i am i am
