is your life a not-so-care free promenade
down memory lane? does the grass grow
faster than your surgical scissors can mow,
the hideous earth covered in weeds and sin
must have missed your memo about which way to spin.

when everyone everywhere apologizes
when the hammer cries for the nail,
when the whale weeps for ishmael
in a storm that stirs his delirious crew
as strange things swim in the deep blue stew
& our minds shut off while our mouths still move
