SUNDAY PRAYER, ccxcix
time & time again,
to a moth bouncing on and off the bulb
(tink and trank and bonk and pink)
the bulb is all but the kitchen sink
(bonk and pink and tink and trank)
in the metal elephant at the bottom sank
in my glass of tea there meekly steeps
my new year's resolution: to once more
keep going. to be a hanging garden
and keep growing, even when the rain is acid
screaming, even when the audience is placid
drinking, even when the wine is rancid.
as if all of life were a wedding crazed,
seeds thrown at all who run the maze.
some with fanfare, some unannounced,
the earth like moths we bounce and bounce
i am, i am.
you are a birthday
deep with the dayshine
from dusk to moonbreak
the dust of keepsakes
time & time again, i am i am
